No one paying even the slightest attention can fail to see the full court press of suppression and destruction now being conducted by the Progressive Left. Oh yes, most of the people on the Left, Center, Right who clearly see what’s going on remain carefully silent. Foe some it’s because they imagine they’ll somehow benefit from a soft-totalitarian regime. For others it’s fear of reprisal. For others it’s hope that this is just a passing fad that will go away on its own.
But for far too many supporters it has nothing to do with rational thought. No, it has to do with a witches cauldron of emotions that glories in the suffering and destruction of “the enemy.” There is no “politics as usual” for this group, only the insatiable, unending struggle to obtain and use raw power.
Anyone who has been following this blog knows that documenting this situation is a major theme. If you want to find relevant posts simply search this blog on key words such as “wicked,” “bloody minded,” “totalitarian” or “corrupt,” among others. I also have a category titled “Fighting Back” that includes some of this material. What you will find is NOT me psychoanalyzing from a distance, but rather documentation of what the Progressive Left is saying and doing in full public view. At this point if you don’t know about what’s going on it’s because you don’t want to know.
And yet, even people who are members of the intellectual elite claim surprise over the Biden Administration’s authoritarian actions. To the left you will see a tweet by Andrew Sullivan, a man with whom I generally disagree on policy, but who I occasionally find to be perceptive and compelling (most recently here), claiming just such surprise.
But, as so many people have pointed out, President Biden is implementing precisely the policies that he promised on the campaign trail. One can only conclude that there are many otherwise sensible, well meaning people out there who through some combination of selective listening and Trump hatred managed to allow themselves to be fooled. If there are many of these people out there then there may be hope for our Republic.
But the tragic fact is that there is a very large group of Americans who have bought into the Progressive Movement’s tactics. There are many theories about why so many citizens have lurched into this politics of personal and national destruction. The following post describes the three that I have found to be the most enlightening and compelling.
